Hypoglycemia is a condition when blood glucose levels drop too low in your body. It is a dangerous condition and should be avoided. It can be caused by - overdose of insulin, missing meal, higher than normal physical activity etc. Symptoms triggered due to hypoglycemia are -Shakiness, nervousness or anxiety, sweating, chills and clamminess, irritability or impatience, confusion, rapid/fast heartbeat, light headedness or dizziness, hunger and nausea, sleepiness, blurred/impaired vision, tingling or numbness, headaches, weakness or fatigue, anger, stubbornness, or sadness, lack of coordination, seizures, unconsciousness Treatment of hypoglycemia involves immediately raising the blood sugar to normal level through the intake of carbohydrates rich food, and finding the cause and taking measures to hopefully prevent future Hypoglycemia. Blood glucose can be raised to normal within minutes by taking 10-20 grams of carbohydrate. It can be taken as food or drink. This amount of carbohydrate is contained in about 100 ml of orange, apple, or grape juice other than juices 3-4 pcs of biscuits, about 4-5 crackers are also other options. Symptoms should begin to improve within 5 minutes, though full recovery may take 10–20 minutes. However there is no need of overfeeding as it does not speed recovery and if the person has diabetes, it increases the blood sugar later. So, if you experience any of these symptoms, check your blood glucose level and if it is low, have a candy/sugar/juice immediately.
